The Queens Legacy Lab is a community-centered learning and engagement network serving Jamaica, Queens. We believe the future belongs to informed communities. Our mission is simple: connect people to opportunities, connect neighbors to one another, and help turn individual success into community success. The goal is not to create another program. The goal is to strengthen the relationships, knowledge, and opportunities that already exist within our community and make them easier to find, easier to access, and easier to share.
At the center of our work is the Hippocampus, a space for households raising the next generation. Members connect through educational programs, workforce initiatives, civic engagement activities, fitness experiences, community meetups, celebrations, trips, media projects, and virtual events. Community engagement matters, but so does lifelong learning, human capital development, civic engagement, etc. We believe people should continue building skills, expanding networks, exploring new ideas, and creating opportunities at every stage of life.
The vision is grounded in experience. Over the years, thousands of residents have participated in experiences connected to #SUPPORTFEST, #TRUNKORTREATQU, #BUMPQU, #KICKBALLQU, the Family Movies in the Park Tour by A Better Jamaica, the Starting From Scratch Program with DJ Nett and The Nettwork, community initiatives with Freshlife, and trips with Chosen Few Travel Crew. We are stepping into a new phase. New partnerships continue to emerge, including the relocation of the 2026 #TRUNKORTREATQU celebration to Calvary Baptist Church following a conversation with Brother Aubrey Kellman. Repeatedly, the idea has been the same: when people gather with purpose, opportunities aren’t too far behind.
Membership in the Legacy Lab is free and open to residents, businesses, organizations, and community programs that want to stay connected to what is happening in and around Jamaica, Queens. Members receive updates on opportunities, events, partnerships, educational experiences, workforce initiatives, trips, meetups, and community projects throughout the year. But this isn’t an email list. We will call you personally to make sure you’re fine, help you refocus, and make sure you’re family isn’t stressing. We believe stronger connections create stronger outcomes. The right conversation can change a day. The right opportunity can change a year. The right community can change a life. Grassroots communities create strength. Strong communities create legacy.
